Forest, Analogue

Forest, Analogue is a black-and-white 16mm film shot in a woodland, hand-processed using a developer made primarily from locally gathered nettles, with the final sequence made using the phytogram process. Through a fictional voiceover, the film imagines a roll of 16mm film discovered in an ancient forest, as though it possessed a memory of its own and was searching for its origin. The work explores the relationship between analogue film materials and the natural world, while reflecting on the origins of film materials, plant-based processing and the possibilities of sustainable practice.
