Alexei Infantiev moves through three life stages: a youth controlled by a dominant mother and consumed by obsessive love, a middle age crushed by the stifling monotony of Soviet daily life, and a quiet old age as a widower reflecting on a lifetime of isolation, unfulfilled potential, and emotional decay.
