Biography

George Tzortzis (Athens, 30 July 1938 - 14 January 2019) was a Greek television and film actor.

He was born in Athens on 30 July 1938. He made his theatre debut in 1960 and in cinema in 1961. He made his theatre debut in Alejandro Casona's play "Trees Die Standing", with the troupe of Vasilis Diamantopoulos and Maria Alkaios. Participation in many other troupes followed, with the longest-lasting one with the troupe of Dimitris Myrat and Voula Zoumboulakis.

In the mid-1970s, he created his own troupe with his then wife Tonia Kaziani, with whom he staged important works of the international repertoire.

He also acted on television, with his best-known participation being in the series, The Shine, by Nikos Foskolos, in the role of the Chief of Police. His other television appearances were in The Unknown War, The Witches of Smyrna and Bloody Soils in 2008, where he co-starred with Anna Synodinou.

He was married to fellow actress Tonia Kaziani, whom he met on the set of the film A German in Kalavrita and with whom he also starred in the TV series The Unknown War. They had a daughter, Eugenia, who did not pursue acting. They divorced years later.

He died at the age of 80 on January 14, 2019.
