Biography

Sofia Olympiou (Sofia-Glykeria Chalkiopoulou, 23 March 1935 – 25 September 2017) was a Greek television, theatre and film actress.

Sofia Olympiou came from an artistic family. Her maiden name was Sofia-Glykeria Chalkiopoulou. Her father was the actor Yiannis Chalkiopoulos and her mother was the actress Eleni Lalaouni. On her father's side, her grandfather Nikos Chalkiopoulos was an actor and her grandmother was the also actress Sofia Chalkiopoulou. On her mother's side, only her grandmother was an actress, Olympia Lalaouni.

Her first husband was George Olympiou, while her second husband was Christoforos Kazantzidis.

She had a long career in the theater scene, almost 41 years of presence on the stage, which began in 1977 and ended in 2017, when she passed away. Sofia Olympiou had also acted in many television series, achieving great success, especially in the series Akros Oikogeneiakon, playing the aunt of the protagonists.
