Martin Purvis

Biography

Martin Purvis, who passed away in July 19th 2023, was an emeritus professor at Otago University (New Zealand), with experience in physics, filmmaking, software engineering, and information science. He had also had a lifelong interest in philosophy, particularly phenomenology and existential philosophy, which he believed that key notions and sentiments in that area were often better conveyed via the film medium than through the written word.

He authored the film blog "The Film Sufi" from 2008 to 2022.
