Sahil Khalid Sahni is an independent filmmaker, writer, and director based in Mumbai, India, driven by a deep interest in human emotions, relationships, identity, and the complexities of the human experience. His approach to filmmaking is rooted in the belief that cinema is not merely a form of entertainment, but a medium through which personal experiences, emotions, ideas, and perspectives can be expressed and shared.
As a writer and director, Sahil focuses on developing stories that emerge from real emotions and observations of everyday life. His work often explores themes such as love, attachment, loneliness, psychological conflict, personal identity, and the quiet struggles that exist beneath ordinary human interactions. Rather than relying solely on conventional storytelling, he is interested in creating films that leave audiences with something to reflect upon after the screen fades to black.
Sahil's filmmaking journey began through independent projects, where he has taken on multiple creative responsibilities and learned to approach filmmaking from both a writer's and director's perspective. Working within the limitations of independent filmmaking has shaped his understanding of storytelling, encouraging him to find creative solutions while keeping the emotional core of a film intact.
His creative philosophy is strongly connected to authenticity. Sahil believes that the value of a film lies not only in its final product, but also in the experiences, emotions, struggles, and personal perspective that an artist brings into the work. For him, filmmaking is therefore both an artistic process and a form of personal expression.
As a writer, Sahil is particularly interested in character-driven narratives and emotionally grounded stories. He aims to create characters who feel human rather than simply serving a plot, allowing their choices, contradictions, relationships, and vulnerabilities to shape the narrative. As a director, he pays close attention to visual storytelling, atmosphere, framing, performance, and the relationship between silence and dialogue.
His independent film work includes projects such as WITHHELD, a semi-silent short film written and directed by Sahil, as well as other original projects exploring psychological and emotional themes. His upcoming body of work includes stories such as Aaina and Attachment, reflecting his continuing interest in psychological storytelling and intimate human experiences.
Sahil approaches every project as an opportunity to experiment, learn, and develop his voice as a filmmaker. His long-term ambition is to build a body of work that remains personal and distinctive while connecting with audiences on an emotional and human level.
Currently, Sahil continues to write and develop independent films, with the goal of expanding his work across short films and eventually feature-length cinema. He remains committed to independent filmmaking and to telling stories that are honest, emotionally resonant, and rooted in the human experience.
