Biography
Burak Şahin (b. 1996) is a Turkish attorney, novelist, screenwriter, and filmmaker. He holds an LL.B. from Kocaeli University and is pursuing postgraduate studies in Cinema and Television at Marmara University in Istanbul. His legal practice in civil, criminal, and property law deeply informs his cinematic and literary inquiries into the tension between institutional language, state absence, and private conscience.
He is the author of "The Court of Lost Lives" (Kayıp Hayatlar Mahkemesi), a cycle of five standalone novels. His screenwriting work has received international recognition: his short script "Mass Production" was a Semifinalist at the 57th Nashville Film Festival Screenwriting Competition and a Finalist at Istanbul and Chatham-Kent film festivals. His project "The Sublimation" was selected for the 5th Screenplay ConTesTIFF Pitching Day at the 24th Tirana International Film Festival. In 2026, Şahin wrote, directed, and produced the short essay documentary "The Department of Ownerless Places" (Sahipsiz Yerler Müdürlüğü).
