Biography

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (born November 1, 1973) is an Indian actress who works predominantly in Hindi and Tamil cinema. After winning the Miss World 1994 pageant, she made her acting debut in the political drama Iruvar (1997) and entered Hindi cinema that same year with ...Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya. Her subsequent releases included Jeans (1998) and Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999).

For her performance in the musical Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Rai won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She followed this with Taal (1999), Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000), and Mohabbatein (2000). She earned a second Filmfare Award for Best Actress for the period drama Devdas (2002). Her releases during this decade included the Bengali feature Chokher Bali (2003), Raincoat (2004), Dhoom 2 (2006), Guru (2007), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), Enthiran (2010), and Guzaarish (2010). She also appeared in English-language productions, including Bride & Prejudice (2004) and The Pink Panther 2 (2009).

Following a hiatus, Rai returned to cinema with Jazbaa (2015), the biographical drama Sarbjit (2016), and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). She later starred in the historical drama Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022) and its sequel Ponniyin Selvan: II (2023).
