Gunasekhar

Biography

Gunasekhar (born June 2, 1964) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer who works predominantly in Telugu cinema. He made his directorial debut with the action drama Laati (1992), winning the Nandi Award for Best First Film of a Director. He subsequently directed Sogasu Chuda Taramaa (1995), followed by the mythological feature Ramayanam (1996), which won the National Film Award for Best Children's Film. His later releases of the decade included Choodalani Vundi (1998) and Manoharam (2000).

In 2003, Gunasekhar wrote and directed the action film Okkadu, which won the Filmfare Award for Best Director – Telugu. His subsequent directorial credits during the decade included Mrugaraju (2001), Arjun (2004), Sainikudu (2006), and the romantic action drama Varudu (2010), followed by Nippu (2012). Gunasekhar later transitioned into film production under his banner, writing, directing, and producing the 3D biographical period film Rudhramadevi (2015). He followed this by writing, directing, and producing the historical drama Shaakuntalam (2023) and the social drama Euphoria (2026).
