Why Are the Alps Becoming More Dangerous?

The Matterhorn, the Alps’ most iconic peak, lost thousands of tons of rock on August 5. Other summits are also crumbling, especially Mont Blanc, which saw record rockfalls this summer. Decades of rising temperatures are destabilizing the mountains, making alpine climbs and hikes increasingly dangerous.
