Cosmo Speranza is a brilliant art consultant with an extraordinary talent for spotting whether a work of art is genuine or fake. When the director of an important gallery in Rome is found murdered, with his body arranged to resemble a figure from a painting by Artemisia Gentileschi, Cosmo becomes involved in the police investigation. He is forced to work alongside Inspector Angelo Tiberi, a man very different from him. Despite their contrasting personalities, the two gradually become an unexpectedly effective investigative duo. As more crimes appear to be connected to works of art, the case takes a deeply personal turn when a painting depicting Cosmo’s childhood home is discovered at a crime scene. Cosmo begins to suspect that the killer is communicating directly with him, forcing him to confront secrets from his past and the mysterious circumstances surrounding his father’s death.
