On the first leg of the trip, Timothy misreads the tides near Fishguard, visits Shane's home town of Aberystwyth and finds a lovely cove at Porthdinllaen.

Timothy and Shane encounter problems with buoys when trying to dock at Liverpool, but Piel Island near Barrow-in-Furness finds them in the company of royalty.
3The Bit in the Middle
Timothy and Shane take their barge to three different countries, and visit son Rafe on the Isle of Man. In Belfast, he frequents one of his favourite pubs.

Timothy and his wife Shane encounter several Scottish ports and islands in the misty drizzle and venture up the Caledonian Canal.
